LETTER: Parksville council needs to find its way to priorities

Oh my goodness! What on earth is council thinking; a three-year, $168,000 wayfinding project for Parksville … really? Do we honestly need new signage, mapping and other magical tools to help visitors navigate our small city? The downtown core is so small anyway, do you really think the area is so complicated a visitor couldn’t find their way?

I agree with Coun. Leanne Salter’s objection to this project and the money should definitely be allocated more wisely. Wouldn’t it be great for locals and visitors to be able to support a permanent restaurant in the community park? Perhaps we could consider building a pier and house the restaurant at the end of the pier. Another suggestion would be to provide additional parking in the park which can be difficult to find during the height of the summer.

Isn’t it time council provided some great incentives to attract new businesses to our area? I believe we could be doing so much more for our city rather than wasting $168,000 on a wayfinding project.
