Caring community
The Old Dutch Inn has gone out in commendable style and the new Qualicum Beach Inn will open in the summer, but an amazing act of generosity happened over the Christmas and New Year’s season.
From Dec. 15 to Jan. 15, the Old Dutch was open to serve meals to all in the area who needed a hot meal. Many folks came who regularly attend the St. Stephen’s Community Meal.
Other guests, who are part of the Manna Ministry, were picked up by mini-bus in Parksville at the Salvation Army and driven to the site.
Children were given stuffed toys and adults often went home with small food items.
John and Ken, the owners, also pitched in by serving food, coffee and doing dishes.
The staff of the hotel were unfailingly helpful and, of course, there were many volunteers like myself who came from the community, people from the Community Meals, Rotary members, neighbors and plain folk.
Thank you Qualicum/Quality Foods for helping our community in such a caring way.
