A white elephant

Re: the new medical center that VIHA is implementing in Parksville.

I was at Parksville X-Ray on the Old Island Highway recently, and they are closing this summer.

More disturbing, is that the x-ray centre has sold its licence to VIHA and its staff were told they’d be out of work some time in July when VIHA closes the facility and opens an X-ray facility in the medical centre staffed by its union employees.

If this is the case, as I was told by staff at the X-ray centre, then VIHA’s operation is eliminating jobs in Parksville, not making them.

I have asked a few local doctors and they say that there has been no contact and they are not inclined to move to the medical centre, as they have full practices.

More fun to consider for old people in Parksville is getting to the medical centre — there are no sidewalks, it is on the edge of town and there appear to be no buses there. Hopefully, the parking will be free as that is the only way to get to it.

These are just a few observations after reading recent coverage in The NEWS about our government-issue white elephant.
