Words of wisdom
I was recently reading your articles by Auren Ruvinsky in which he interviews former Qualicum Chief Kim Recalma-Clutesi on the Idle No More demonstrations.
I have had the good fortune to work with both Kim and her husband and hereditary Chief Adam Dick on international Indigenous children’s rights initiatives. I have always found their personal insight and deep traditional wisdom on these and other Indigenous issues to be both sound and worthy of respectful consideration.
Kim’s articulation of the Idle No More grievances from a perspective of long standing flaws in the governance discourse between the government of Canada and First Nations leaders makes much sense.
Her suggestions for ways in which these grievances can be ameliorated by providing greater support for the traditions and ceremonies practiced by her, Chief Adam and other traditional leaders are worthwhile and would benefit all.
