Calling Australia

The list of finalists for the Parksville and District Chamber’s 2012 Glassies awards, P3 PQB News , Feb. 12, is a strange mixture of “About Time!” and  “Who?”

Starting with volunteers Bob and Sheila Dale who seem to have been perpetually involved in good causes for very many years, the subsequent listing of names in the other six categories contains a number of well-known citizens.

But tucked away at the end of  Citizen of the Year is Michelle Stilwell, the lady who recently surfaced as a part-time wannabe for our large-salaried representative in Victoria.

Until now it has been my understanding that Citizen of the Year celebrates outstanding service to our community.

Does a glittering Olympics medal now supercede this requirement?  What has this lady contributed to the City of Parksville and its residents?

It would be nice if she were to withdraw her name from this competition. But perhaps she hasn’t heard yet. Perhaps she is too busy on the other side of the world,  “giving it her all.”
