Letters to the Editor

Ferry pay vs. MLA

Re: recent letter to the editor from Alberni-Pacific MLA Scott Fraser (‘Need ferry plan’). I find it interesting that Fraser insists on ferry fare increases being the result of “even higher corporate pay structures” while never telling us how much money this executive pay is costing BC Ferries.

For fiscal 2013 “director and key executive compensation” amounted to $2 million.

Dividing by total vehicles this works out to 26 cents per vehicle for the year.

Dividing by total sailings it works out to $11 per sailing for 2013.

If only we had a useful denominator with which we could divide Fraser’s own salary and platinum pension plan.

Perhaps if we used letters to the editor as the metric we could get it down to mere thousands of dollars per letter?
