Letters to the Editor

People not sheep

Re: Bernie Smith’s letter to the editor in the Jan. 9 edition of The NEWS (Raising your voice for the province).

Fascinating. All this talk of the ratio of sheep to human beings in New Zealand and again the reference to Smith’s maritime career, which we have been hearing about ad nauseum in the local papers for some time.

But I would much prefer to see hard facts showing Enbridge’s oil spill recovery plan and the details of the economic gain and job increases for British Columbian’s should the Gateway and LNG proposals go ahead.

If Smith has difficulty presenting these facts in writing maybe he’d have benefited from attending Communities to Protect our Coast’s presentation on Nov. 15 where concerned engineers, scientists and master mariners would have been happy to enlighten him.

The silent majority? They were there seeking information, all 600 of them. Concerned local citizens looking for facts, your neighbors Smith, not a sheep in sight.
