Ah, the dangers of Photoshop.
As I was reading the Jan. 9 edition of The NEWS and heartily agreeing with Dusty Miller’s letter to the editor regarding the derelict Parksville Beach Resort, I came upon a full-page advertisement decrying the proposed Pheasant Glen Golf Resort — an ad taken out by the Qualicum Beach Taxpayers Against Senseless Development group, who, apparently, have not learned the benefits of brevity in naming an organization.
It appears the QBTASD have, however, learned about Photoshop. The picture in their ad showing a smörgåsbord of birds, animals and humans clumsily Photoshopped together in a bucolic forest scene made me laugh out loud. And the depressing photo of a 1950s housing tract used to subliminally illustrate the potential horrors of the proposed Pheasant Glen Golf Resort is straight out of a magazine from the same era. It is not comparable in any way to the striking, modern and environmentally-tasteful design in the Pheasant Glen Golf Resort proposal.
Change is never easy. Growth can be contentious. But stasis is not an option. I do not know if the Pheasant Glen proposal is viable; time will tell. But I am appalled by the QBTASD’s use of misleading and manipulated photographs, as well as their lurid, melodramatic and biased prose, to further their opinion.
