Election coming

Although mind-bending stories emanate from Mayor Rob Ford’s city hall, things in our nation’s capital never reach as salacious a scale as in Toronto or in Washington, D.C.

Our peek into the privileged personal lives of holier-than-thou straight-laced types of Canada’s Conservative political elite is once again focusing on a “power-couple,” and motorized Machiavellian machinations of their Esteemed Leader. A few years back, antics of a “power-couple” startled the capital press corps with the sudden defection to the Liberal ranks of Tory superstar Belinda Stronach, leaving a bitter breakup with Tory Deputy Leader Peter MacKay in her wake.

Who can forget those pitiful pictures of Peter parading his pooch on Poppa’s potato patch. Then a nasty canine-gender-specific word followed the jilter across the floor of the House Of Commons; it was hurled by the jiltee, in what is loosely defined as debate in that once-revered parliamentary chamber.

More recently another Tory “power couple” were shown no mercy by the aforementioned Esteemed Leader; Helena Geurgis and Rahim Jaffer fell out of favour, and received lasting tire-imprints from being quickly thrown under the PM’s bus.

Today, it’s that not-so-lovable “power couple” of Dimitri Soudas and Eva Adams who are crossing the road to ruin. Soudas was summarily dispatched beneath the Tory bus, and we can already hear it revving up in the PM’s garage, having been fitted with heavy-duty tires with maxi-grip studs, ready to roll over MP Adams, too. Others to have met their fate under the bus include suspended Senators Duffy, Brazeau and Wallin; all learned the hard way that he who is now doubling as bus-driver-in-chief, was the same one they considered as their BFF when he appointed them.

Seems that “forever” has no place in the Esteemed Leader’s vocabulary with an election year on the horizon.
