ROAMS is great

I was so happy to read about the ROAMS program (The NEWS, March 10, Spotlight page A5).

My son is in the program and I am absolutely amazed with what Jake Friesen and Darin Carmichael are doing for these young adults. The time spent prepping, organizing, doing paperwork and then transporting the students to the activity goes above and beyond any school program that my son has participated in. I cannot say enough good things about these two teachers.

The skills that the students are acquiring will set them up for amazing careers immediately upon graduation. My son came home recently after a day of rafting on Stamp River in Port Alberni to tell me about the raft guide and how much he has travelled for his job and the adventures that he has been on.

Each opportunity that is offered to my son sparks another interest for him. On another recent day, they were out on Melrose Road cut block in Qualicum doing tree planting for Island Timberlands, which in turn is making a donation to the program. Each day is a new adventure in the great outdoors.
