Cap teacher pay
Re: Leonard Melman’s letter ‘Important strike questions’ (The NEWS, June 5).
He is absolutely right that the government can not hire thousands of new teachers under the current conditions. Instead, the astronomical high salaries of the teachers should be reduced to a realistic level and with the saved tax money the government can hire extra teachers with no additional costs to the taxpayers. It is not a great imposition to have a salary cap at $50,000 for teachers.
A good education is the guarantor for the future of this country, but the actual education children are getting now is bad for the future of Canada. There are several reasons, summer breaks of 10 weeks and the quality of the teachers being two of them.
When you see the young people after finishing school are not even able to speak clearly, then the teachers have failed.
As the students have the right of education and good education means a good future for Canada, teachers should not be allowed to strike.
