Shameful cycling

Re: June 3 edition of The NEWS, which included a picture and caption about Qualicum Beach winning the Bike To Work Challenge.

Thank you to The NEWS for portraying the perfect example of the disregard for safety by many cyclists who put motorist in jeopardy daily.

The chosen designation as the “Oceanside Cycling Coalition” with the purported mandate to “promote the ever-increasing number of people safely commuting by bicycle” is ridiculous, hypocritical, stupid and irresponsible. NO helmets, texting, no reflective wear and no front and back safety lights. This so-called coalition should be ashamed and embarrassed and should offer the public an apology.

A true leader leads by example.
