Burning flags

I was walking on the boardwalk in Parksville before the fireworks on Canada Day and saw a young man lighting an American flag, trying to burn it, but as the material was most likely flame retardant he was only able to melt it a bit.

I was very disturbed by this young man and everyone around him laughing about it. How would he feel if someone burned the Canadian flag in front of him? I am Canadian but I have an American son-in-law and three dual citizen granddaughters. I did go back and take pictures of him and for the second one he actually posed for it with the melted flag. I was totally disgusted.
