QB lawn bowl thanks

The Qualicum Beach Lawn Bowling Club held its first ladies pairs tournament on June 13-14 in support of Oceanside Hospice.

It was set up as a tribute to Sylvia Gibb, a long-time member of our club who passed away last year. What a success this event was — a fun two days over which spectators were treated to some excellent bowling in this winner-play-winner format.

The Courtenay team of Pat Cutt and Sandy Tonnellie are the first to have their names engraved on the beautiful Sylvia Gibb Rose Bowl Trophy.

We could not have done this without the support of the bowlers, club members and in particular Lynn Chwartacki, who canvassed for prizes for a most successful raffle with funds going to hospice. We extend a big thank you to the local businesses (DeeZ Bar & Grill, Faye’s Gifts, Gary’s Bistro, Chocolates Plus, Bailey’s in the Village, Lefty’s Fresh Food, Englishman Interiors, Outsider Adventures, Fresh ‘N Fabulous Flowers) for their support for this tournament.

When all was said and done we raised $155 for hospice. The feedback from the bowlers was that they enjoyed this fun event and they will be back next year, so we intend make this an annual event.
