The Coombs-Hilliers Fire Department arrived at a neighbour’s property, whose large shop was already engulfed with flames. Shortly, the other local fire departments in the area arrived and lined up to offer support and supplies.

On arrival, they quickly assessed, secured the area, and put out the flames in an extremely timely manner for the task at hand leaving my neighbour’s home and other buildings intact and untouched.

Being in a rural area requires huge pools to be built on the street to hold the huge amount of water necessary to put out the flames, since there are no fire hydrants.

Then, the team has to trek back into the bush down the driveway to reach the fire.

The organizing, prioritizing, leadership and overall teamwork of these individuals was awe-inspiring.

To think that these are all volunteers who left their homes and dinner to tackle such a task.

I am so proud to have known some of these members when they were young boys and now to see how they have grown up. My words can’t say enough about what community is all about.
