Scofflaw drivers need educating

I am both disgusted and appalled by the number of people who think it is OK to blow the four-way stop near Oceanside Elementary School (on Wembley and Wright roads), the many who think it is just fine to ignore the kids waiting to cross at a crosswalk, on Lowrys Road, and blast right past them.

I see this kind of bad driving almost daily as I take my children to school. I shake my head at those who look directly at me and my child waiting at the cross walk and continue on their way as if we aren’t even there. You would think living in a “sleepy oceanside town,” people wouldn’t be in such a hurry.

What will it take for these drivers to see that we are all a part of this community and we should be looking out for each other? Slow down for a minute. You getting to your destination is not worth a life, especially that of a child. It makes me wonder sometimes if my children will ever be safe on their way to and from school. How am I to give them a sense of independence and responsibility in commuting if they obey the road rules, and yet drivers do not?

You are a part of this community. Help us keep the youngest amongst us safer by obeying the school zones and four-way stops. If you would rather drive faster, use the Island Highway, not the back roads around an elementary school.
