Parksville Golden Oldies start slo-pitch season
PArksville — From the desk of Peter Classon comes a reminder that Parksville Golden Oldies Sports Association’s Slo-Pitch House League kicks off its regular season on Mon., May 2.
A fun league open to men and women 55 years of age and over, the Slo-Pitch House League season runsfrom May to September, with games three times a week, culminating in a wind-up tournament at the end of August.
The object of the House League, said Classon, “is to encourage participation in an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. Teams are comprised of up to 12 players open to all levels of ability. The teams are selected with the aim of keeping them balanced in terms of fitness, skill and ability. We play a 28 game schedule under modified SPN rules.”
Part of the league’s opening day ceremonies is the ceremonial first pitch which is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. May 2 down at Parksville Community Park’s Shelley Field.
Eighty-year-old Peter Kucey, one of the founding members of the Parksville Golden Oldie Sports Association and an active player in the house league, has been selected to catch the opening pitch and a representative of one of the league sponsors will throw the opening pitch.
