Generals keep hockey hopes alive with game five win
PARKSVILLE - The Generals have survived to fight again another day.
Oceanside defeated the Peninsula Panthers Tuesday night, 3-1, to keep their Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League (VIJHL) playoff hopes alive.
The Gens took a 1-0 lead into the third period of their game five with the Panthers. They would take a 2-0 lead before Peninsula would strike back with one. The Gens put it out of reach later in the final frame to advance to game six.
The Gens must keep winning to overtake the Panthers in this opening series for both teams.
Oceanside dominated much of the play, putting 50 shots on net for the game, compared with the Panthers' 36.
Peninsula, in the meantime, dominated the penalty box for much of the game.
With the series now at 3-2 in favour of the Panthers, game six moves back to Saanich Friday night, March 2.
Should the Gens tie the series that night, game seven will be Sunday, March 4 in Parksville at Oceanside Place. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
