Shady Rest downs Port, 2-1
From the pitch comes word the Shady Rest soccer club kicked off its season Sunday with a win when the O45s trimmed Port Alberni 2-1 at Kwalikum Secondary School.
According to longtime Shady Jim Cameron, Port Alberni opened the scoring on a penalty shot at the 30 minute mark and the visitors took a 1-nil lead into the half.
“The goal came against the run of play as Shady Rest had numerous chances to open the scoring,” said Cameron.
The Shady’s Terry Brown rifled home a shot from 18 yards converting an excellent through ball from Baz Danoit to knot the game 1-1 early in the second half, and Danoit sealed the win with 10 minutes left when he blasted a shot home from inside the 18, “finishing a fine passing play from Kevin Newton and Aaron Collery.”
Danoit, Russ Hannay and Terry Brown were outstanding in the match, dominating play from midfield.
