Oceanside team rallies for frosty win
The lads in the yellow strip were tested Sunday, as Oceanside had to come from a goal down in the biting cold to beat Nanaimo #2 3-1 in U16-U18 Boys soccer action at the Qualicum Beach Rec Fields.
The two teams played to a scoreless opening half, and Nanaimo opened the scoring 30 seconds into the second, but Oceanside answered the bell with Eric Wiersma scoring two goals, and Adam Soer, who played goal in the opening half, the third.
“It was freezing out there,” Oceanside co-coach Kirk Campbell confirmed after the match, “and they were a scrappy team. Nanaimo played a lot better this time and they gave us a good game. We thrashed them last time we played them.”
The win lifts Oceanside to 9-2-1 and has them tied with Nanaimo #4 for top spot in their six-team mid-Island league.
GAME ON
Oceanside is back in action on Sunday against the Screaming Eagles in Ladysmith.
