Baseball goes indoors

The Parksville Royals are pleased to announce that they have secured the facilities of the Arbutus Equestrian Centre in Nanoose Bay on Sunday mornings starting Jan. 6, 2013.

According to longtime Royals’ skipper Dave Wallace, “the center is a new indoor training facility featuring a turf surface 200’ x 115’. It is the old turf from BC Place (and) it will allow us to throw, take ground balls, and do most drills similar to an outdoor field.”

There are no batting cages as yet but Wallace said they will be able to hit wiffle balls etc. “and work on all aspects of our program.

“This will be a great way to get prepared for the outdoor season which will commence the first week of March, 2013.

The coaching staff “strongly recommends that any player wishing to participate with the Royals in 2013 maximize their attendance at these workouts.”

All returning and future Royals and North Island Bantam AAA (Grades 8 & 9) are encouraged to attend.

They take place every Sunday, Jan. 6 to Feb. 24 at 1515 Island Highway from about 10 a.m. to noon (to be confirmed) for $60 each, cheques  payable to the Parksville Royals.
