Bantams start season strong
Oceanside’s short-benched Bantam Girls Icebreakers team turned in a terrific effort at Victor Kraatz Arena last Saturday morning but came on the short end of a 5-4 final against the Victoria Ice Hawks in exhibition action.
“We were missing six or seven regulars — we picked up three AP players from the peewee team and they scored all our goals,” Icebreakers’ assistant coach Vince Hall said after.
Olivia ‘Cheese’ Davis scored her first hat trick at the Bantam level and Payton Carter added the single. Icebreakers’ first year goalie Deanna Conlin was strong in net.
The local squad of 13-14 year olds close out their season Sunday with an exhibition game against Cowichan Valley.
“It was a real good effort being short benched — they scored late to beat us,” said Hall.
IN THE MEANTIME: “Our midget female team finished out the season unbeaten, and the Atom, Peewee and Midget girls teams all made the playoffs this year as well, awesome for Oceanside,” said one stoked OMHA female coordinator Sue Street.
The Atoms are March 9-10 in Mill Bay; the Peewees are in Lake Cowichan that same weekend.
