Parksville lawn bowling tournaments
The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club was humming last week as two major tournaments were played on the local greens.
First up was the Nicklen Roy Mackay Coast Realty Group — George Gibson Open Triples Tournament held Sept. 4-5.
Players from up and down the Island took part in the four game tourney where the weather and greens allowed for some great playing.
Aaron Nicklen of Nicklen Roy Mackay and George Gibson made the presentations and awarded the prize money:
Early Division: 1. Ken Bucyk, Carol Bucyk, Rick Dolley (PV)
2. Gary Robinson, Lynn Chwartacki, Jim Paterson (PV)
3. Bill Davenport, Harry Jackson, Carol Chapman (QB)
4. Jake and Elaine Van Kooten, Rinnie Hoestra (Port Alberni)
Late Division: 1. Tom Renton, Emily Lawson, Hiroshi Kawaguchi (Nanaimo)
2. Dave Cole, Keith and Chery Baker (PV)
3. Art & Jeanette Ferguson, Jon Lansdowne (PV)
4. Wayne & Brenda Edwards, Denis Ethier (PV)
Overall tournament winner was the Tom Renton team from Nanaimo.
ON SEPT. 7-8 PLBC welcomed a new sponsor, Brad McCarthy/Oceanside Wine Works with a new tournament, trophy and prize money.
Known as the Parksville Lawn Bowling Club Fours, local players vied for money and the opportunity to be the first to get their names on the newly minted hardware.
A Division Winners: Alan Brunskill, Ruby -Ryan Bishop, Carolyn Russell and Tex Gooding.
Kate Wilson, Dave Perry, Francine Brunskill and Lorraine Maxwell came second and Pat Kelly, Jeanette Ferguson, Ed Russell and Janie Worel came third.
B Division: Jon Lansdowne, Chris Fereday, Cheryl Baker and Sheila Crease beat out Geoff Holland, Mick Banks, Dorothy Johnson, Chris Lethbridge and Diane Cruickshank.
C Division: Clare Atchison Ron Davis, Marion Whitney and Terry Chappell triumphed over Gray Robinson, Kathleen Arthorne, Franki Stemler and Susan Ethier.
D Division: Martin Fereday, Praiwan Davis, Doreen Nordentoft and Joe Arthur.
