Qualicum Beach at the B.C. Women’s Open
The Qualicum Curling Club was represented at the B.C. Women’s Open, which took place in Maple Ridge on Dec. 14-15. The event was to determine which teams would go on to fill the final two spots at the B.C. Scotties Tournament of Hearts.
The Qualicum Beach team of Lynne Noble (skip), Donna Langlands (third), Crystal Murray (second) and Lorraine Gagnon (lead) were in the mix at the Golden Ears Winter Club. Playing in the third women’s open, Team Noble beat Team Tyre out of Kelowna by a final of 11 - 7 in their opening draw.
Draw two saw Team Noble on the losing end of a 10 – 4 game to Team Thompson out of Kamloops. Draw three had Team Noble getting back to it’s winning ways as they beat out Team Richter, from the Royal City Curling Club out of New Westminister, 10 – 4 and they didn’t need the final two ends in this match.
So it was on to draw four on Sunday between Team Noble and Team Jones out of Prince George, the host city for the 2014 B.C. Scotties Tournament of Hearts. It was a close match but in the end Team Jones ended up beating Team Noble 10 – 7.
The team out of Qualicum Beach represented well but weren’t able to claim one of the two spots left for the Scotties Tournament, slated for Jan. 6-12.
