KSS golf team wins another tourney
The defending AA provincial golf champion KSS Kondors won their second tournament of the season at the Alberni Valley Golf Course last week.
Shooting 313, the Kondors finished 20 strokes ahead of the field on a tough course with some very gruesome playing conditions. The course saw greens that were recently punched and some cosmetic issues on various holes as well, but the Kondors played well enough to come away with their second win of the season.
“It wasn’t the best of conditions out there, in terms of the shape of the course, but we managed to play through it all and came out with the win,” coach Butch Gayton said. “We’re playing some good golf right now, not our best, but good enough to be in contention and we’re showing all the necessary signs of getting better.”
Anthony Trozzo, who shot a round of 69 at the previous tournament at Qualicum Memorial, shot a round of 78 and is coming off an Achilles injury that had him missing action until just before the season started.
“Anthony has played real well considering he hasn’t had as much time as everyone else in terms of practicing,” Gayton said. “It was an injury that really didn’t allow him to have any mobility when he tried to swing a club so he just had to wait it out. He came out of the hopper on fire with that round of 69 and is second in our order of merit behind Santiago Bourya, so he’s playing well.”
Bourya led the Kondors with a round of 75, followed by Trozzo at 78, Cole Morrison with a round of 79, Scott Lemon shot an 81, Blair Stewart and Masato Wilson shot 84 and Michelle Waters shot 85.
