Parksville sweeps weekend

Thirty-two lawn bowling teams went to play in Courtenay last weekend, but Parksville came away with the bulk of the prizes and the top trophy for the second year in a row.

The two-day event brought teams from up and down Vancouver Island. The powerhouse Parksville club took four of the top six places and swept the top three.

First place went to the team of Cheryl Baker and Wayne and Brenda Edwards (skip) of Parksville. Second went to Jan and Stu MacNaughton and Jim Muir.

Continuing the top three sweep was Parksville’s team of Roberta Stets, Keith Baker and Rick Dolley (skip). Nanaimo’s Rick Quibell (skip), Mary Mulligan and Lynn Chwartacki took fourth.

Parksville’s Joe and Franki Stemler and Ruby Bishop­ Ryan picked up fifth place. Sixth went to the Qualicum Beach team of Helen Roberts, Vera Gephardt and Mike Ward (skip).
