Busy lawn bowling season

It a busy time for Oceanside lawn bowlers, as both the Parksville and Qualicum Beach lawn bowling clubs are taking part in the provincial play downs.

First up will be the men’s and ladies fours, which will be held in Victoria at the Juan de Fuca Bowling Club (July 4-6).

The ladies team of Lynn Chwartacki, Jane Nielsen and Chris Fereday from Oceanside and Mary Mulligan from Nanaimo will be looking to duplicate their success from last year at the same tournament and win a spot on the B.C. team that will go to the Canadian championships in Winnipeg Aug. 17-23.

There will be teams coming from the mainland, which should provide for some great competition in the double knock format.

The provincial triples (July 11-13) will be next up as the ladies’ tournament will be played in Courtenay and the mens’ in Nanaimo. Teams from the Parksville and Qualicum lawn bowling clubs will be present in both tournaments.

The Parksville Lawn Bowling Club will host the Canadian Mixed Pairs Championship, Sept. 8-13. This marks the second time the club has hosted the event.

The provincial play downs for that event will be held in West Vancouver, August 1-3 and there are several teams already signed up with the goal of winning a spot on the B.C. team and playing in the Canadian championships on their home turf.
