Locals earn black belts

Twenty students at the Parksville Taekwondo Academy were out to achieve their black belts recently at the Qualicum Beach Civic Centre.

Their day started with a three hour closed door session where Grand Master Kil Woo Kim, who’s an eighth degree black belt Korean master, ran everyone through their paces.

A four hour test in the afternoon, followed that up, where family and friends gathered to share the moment and cheer the students on.

“The test was very difficult for some, and there was definitely a lot of blood, sweat and tears,” Master Brett Fee said.

“Everyone came out of there proud and stronger than ever. I think I am the proudest of all, because I get the privilege of working with these great individuals for many years, and watch them grow, develop and evolve into amazing people.”

Devon Beaman, Emma Sterling, Griffin Easthom, Raelia Van Dusen, Sebastian Magana, Tiana Dutton, Trevor Carter, Payton Carter, Tyson Krieger, Carson Reid, Aidan Mackay, Aly Coldwell-Fraser, Carter Worthen, Chase Cleveland, and Christina Wright all earned their first degree black belts.

Desiree Ward, Jamie Wort, Jean Estavio Danoit and Alison Fee all earned their second-degree black belts and Brett Swann earned his third degree black belt.
