Vancouver Island Raiders thump Rebels

Former Ballenas Secondary quarterback Liam O’Brien and the Vancouver Island Raiders were back on the gridiron last weekend, picking up their first victory this season with a 39–9 thumping of the Westshore Rebels of Victoria.

The first game of the “Island rivalry” saw the Raiders taking it to the Rebels from the coin toss. O’Brien picked up where he left off after the first week of action, settling in behind center and throwing for three touchdowns on the day. He went 13–22 passing, racking up 249 yards in the air to bring his total to 555 in just two games, good enough for second in the league.

Dustin Rodriguez was all over the field as well, doing a bit of everything to help the cause. D-Rod broke off a run for 34 yards, hauled in two passes 50 yards and was used as the punter as well for the VI Raiders, who now move to 1-1 so far this season.

The Raiders are on the road this weekend  against the Okanagan Sun, who are looking to rebound from a loss against the Langley Rams, who the Raiders lost to in their opening game of the season.
