World record road hockey
A new record has been set in Nanaimo for the world’s longest outdoor road hockey game.
Tuesday evening, at 5:17 p.m., the group of 40 players from the Youth Sticking Together group tied the record and a minute later the Guinness World Record belonged to them.
Beating the record of 105 hours and 17 minutes, the group kept on going, lasting 105 hours and 44 minutes all together.
Starting out on Friday, August 8, at 8 a.m., the group set out to do something they attempted to do two years earlier when they came up short of the record.
Knowing what it took to get past their previous time and then even farther, things were a little different this time around.
“We knew it was going to be tough, but this group of guys were ready,” said event organizer Tali Campbell, announced this week as the Save-On-Foods Oceanside Generals’ new community relations manager.
“I’m really proud of everyone for all they’ve done and all the effort they put into this. The players, the volunteers, all of our sponsors and everyone in the community that came out and showed their support, I can’t thank them enough.”
It’s now up to the Guinness World Records keepers to verify the information and confirm the times, giving this group of 40 players a world record to call their own.
