The Ballenas Whalers continue to dominate in the Pacific AA Junior Varsity Conference as they silenced the visiting Argyle Pipers 43-0 at the Ballenas field on Wednesday (Oct. 18) afternoon.

The match was played under very wet conditions that left players making splashes all over the field. It proved even tougher for the Pipers, who had to endure the horrible weather conditions not only on the field, but on the trip to the game because they had to take the ferry ride from North Vancouver to the Island. The gusty condition and choppy waters they encountered enroute to the Island made some of the Argyle players ill.

Ballenas was unrelenting on both defence and offence. The Pipers weren’t able to gain a lot of yardage and first downs, and the Whalers’ strong rushing game proved to be too much for the Pipers to handle.

This was the second shutout win for the Whalers this season. They now share the top spot in the Pacific AA Conference with a 3-0 record to match Surrey’s Holy Cross, which is also unbeaten so far this season. The teams will face each other on Oct. 25 at Holy Cross Regional High School in Surrey at 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Ballenas Senior Whalers will try to score their first win of the season when they take on senior Argyle Pipers at home at Ballenas Field Friday, Oct. 20, at 3:15 p.m. The Whalers have lost their first two Western AA Conference games and will need to win their remaining games in order to make it to the playoffs.
