Pharmasave in both Parksville and Qualicum Beach have launched a personalized service that provides customers with online access to manage their health.

The eCare@Pharmasave accounts allow patients to manage their prescriptions online at any time.

“Our goal with this service is to allow patients to have quick and easy access to their prescriptions and make refills easier,” said Lonny Barr, part-owner of Parksville Pharmasave.

“With the level of comfort that we now see with online services such as online banking, this is a valuable tool that we wanted to be able to offer our patients.”

Customers can also use eCare@Pharmasave accounts to view their medication history for the previous two years, view the number of refills available for each of their medications and order refills online at their convenience.

In addition, the online service allows customers to send in a new prescription by taking a photo of it with their phone, see specifics of each prescription, enter, search and select medications and health conditions to learn more about them and transfer prescriptions easily to their local Pharmasave.

“There seems to be a lot of demand for people to have online access to that (medical information) in a similar way that they want online access to banking,” Barr said.

“The information is there, they don’t have to call in and ask, they just have all the access to (information) themselves. That way they can take a bit more control.

“It’s just getting started, it’s all just brand new right now.”

The goal, Barr said, is for more people to access their information online to alleviate them calling in to the store.

“Then (customers) can phone us for more questions if they’re having medication problems. That way we can be spending more time talking to people about health advice as opposed to stuff about when’s their next fill,” Barr said.

“Ultimately, we’re trying to improve their health.”

The service also allows users to receive reminders to take their medication even when they are not operating the app.

There is also an option to add notes and instructions to each medication reminder.

Patient privacy is protected with password protection and data encryption.

Pharmasave, nationally, has rolled out the new online service, that was developed by the company’s head office.

Visit Pharmasave.com or download the free Pharmasave app to set up an eCare@Pharmasave account and to generate a registration code. Bring the registration code to your Pharmasave to link it to your pharmacy record.

People can also go into their local Pharmasave pharmacist, who can generate a code, allowing you to complete account registration online on Pharmasave.com or the Pharmasave app at their convenience.

“(Customers) have to come into the store to get a registration code because of confidentiality… we have to make sure it’s them and then they get a unique signature to log in,” Barr said.
