Most shoppers have been co-operating with a new mandatory mask rule at Woodgrove Centre, and now the mall is asking for full co-operation.
According to a letter from Woodgrove Centre’s management team, customers will be asked to leave if they refuse to comply with temperature checks and the mandatory mask rule starting Monday, Oct. 5.
“If a customer refuses a temperature check, they must have a mask check; if a customer refuses both, they will be asked to leave the centre,” notes the letter from Bin Wang, CEO and general manager of Woodgrove.
Customers can purchase masks for $1 at mall entrances, with all proceeds to the Nanaimo Child Development Centre.
Customers who have medical conditions preventing them from wearing a mask and toddlers under two years old are exempt from the rule.
Woodgrove says it plans to keep its protocols in effect “until the Ministry of Health mandates that the pandemic is fully under control.”

Mall management said in the letter that it has received “a great amount of positive feedback from our customers” since the mask policy and temperature checks went into effect at the start of last week.
“Although no other shopping centres in B.C. have implemented these protocols at this time, we hope everyone can understand our belief that it is our responsibility to keep every customer safe and healthy during each visit,” the letter noted.
