At its quarterly meeting on March 6, the 100 Men of Oceanside group awarded $10,000 to the Oceanside Hospice Society.

According to a new release, the latest donation from the group will enable the hospice society to launch a new initiative designed to assist men who have suffered the death of a loved one to effectively grieve their loss. The purpose of the initiative will be to make it easier for grieving men to access the support services offered by the Society and to tailor these services to meet the unique needs of these men

Accepting the $10,000 ‘cheque’ from 100 Men of Oceanside’s Kim Burden was Paul Singh of the OHS.

The next meeting of the 100 Men of Oceanside will take place June 5 (7 p.m.) at the Parksville Community Centre at 233 Mills St. in Parksville (next to Starbucks). A social hour starting at 6 p.m. precedes the meeting.

100 Men is actively recruiting new members and any man residing in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area who is interested in joining the efforts of the group can get more information by going to the website at 100oceansidemen.ca, by emailing info@100oceansidemen.ca or by attending the June meeting.

The group meets quarterly and its members commit to contribute $100 individually at each meeting to support an eligible PQB charitable group. A recipient charity may only receive a donation from 100 Men once every three years.

Members’ individual donations of $100 quarterly ($400 per year) are issued federal tax receipts by the recipient organization and 100 per cent of member donations goes to the selected charities.

Since its inception in December 2019, the group has contributed more than $170,000 to local charitable groups that provide services and support to the residents of the area.
