On the first of the month, 25 youngsters received the gift of the written word.

On Wednesday, Sept. 1, 25 books were delivered to 25 three-year-olds living in the Bowser Elementary School catchment area of School District 69 (Qualicum).

The donated books were a result of the newly formed local foundation, Wonderful World of Books.

For each month of the upcoming school year, from September until June, an age appropriate book will be given to these children, resulting in 10 new books per year.

The goal of the foundation is to deliver books to each and every three-year-old living in School District 69 by January 2022.

The foundation is the brainchild of early childhood education advocate, 95-year-old Eva Hilborn, along with one of the foundation directors, Cathy Van Herwaarden.
