The City of Parksville has announced that a new swing will be added to the Lions Ventureland Playground.

In a public release from Deb Tardiff, manager of communications with the city, it read that work will begin on Wednesday, Dec. 16, with city workers set to install the new Expression Swing Universal in the Parksville Community Park, adjacent to the existing swing. The new swing should be operational by Dec. 24 and until then, the existing one will be out of service.

The new swing features the same adult seat as the original swing and includes an adaptive swing seat for children of all abilities, ages five to 12. The swing positions adult and child face-to-face and eye-to-eye to encourage an emotional bond during play. The adaptive seat provides an inclusive form of play for children who require additional support.

With the installation of the new swing, the framework for the wheelchair swing will be removed. The wheelchair swing was removed years ago due to regular vandalism, which made it difficult to maintain. Relocation of the wheelchair swing is not an option.
