The 28th annual Coombs Community Picnic is ready to roll out the checkered tablecloth for families on June 8 at the Coombs Fairgrounds.

Located at 1014 Ford Rd., the fairgrounds will be the scene of a lively community picnic that encourages families to bring along their own picnic dinner, or enjoy the free hot dogs, hamburgers and ice cream cones served at the event.

Taking place from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the event will include live music from the Westerly Sisters — a string duo composed of Ramiah and Fahlon Smith, as well as pony rides from Hamilton Hobby Farm, glitter tattoos, face painting and children’s games. Angus Coulter will also be bringing his Children’s Garden Railway, which will feature a model speeder on the track this year.

Every year, the Coombs Community Picnic honours a special community figure with a cake-cutting. This year, the Coombs General Store and Post Office will be honoured for serving the community for 107 years in 2018.

Those interested in volunteering for the event can contact Arrowsmith Recreation co-ordinators, Kim Longmuir at 250-248-8515 or via kimlongmuir@telus.net; or Kristine Stephenson at 250-927-3985 or via stephenson@live.ca.

The event is put on through the Arrowsmith Community Recreation Association, the Arrowsmith Agricultural Association, the RDN, the Parksville-Qualicum 4H Club, the Coombs-Hilliers Fire Department, the Coombs General Store, Coombs Old Country Market and Wallpepper Signs.
