The biggest little Western event on Vancouver Island returned to the Coombs Rodeo Grounds for another year of Bulls, Broncs and Barrels on Aug. 17 and Aug. 18.
A sizable and enthusiastic crowd turned out to check out the competitive bull riding, saddle bronc riding, bareback riding, barrel racing and the Vancouver Island Coastal Cowgirls Equestrian Drill Team, plus the antics of rodeo clown 'Squirrelly Earl' Anderson.
The rodeo brought in competitors from across B.C. and Alberta.
This year also marked 101 years of service by the Coombs Hilliers Recreation and Community Organization (CHRCO).
In 1976, the CHRCO held its first rodeo which brought in cowboys and cowgirls fro Victoria, Duncan, Nanaimo, Nanoose Bay and Parksville.
Longtime Coombs community member and volunteer Jack Buss was remembered during the weekend event.
