The Dashwood Volunteer Fire Department will hold its final head shave at Station 61.
The old hall will be taken down this year to make way for the construction of a new firehall.
Every year, for 13 years, the Dashwood Fire Department has staged a head-shaving event to raise funds for the Canadian Cancer Society. They will hold the fundraiser on Sept. 25 at the old hall at 230 Hobbs Rd., from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Their two volunteer barbers, Evelyn Schaverte and Cheryle Cook, have shaved hundreds of heads over the years from a six-year-old son of an emergency medical service member to an 86-year-old grandmother of a firefighter. They have also been collecting long hairs donated to the cancer agency to make wigs for people who lose their heads during treatment.

“They have helped us raise and donate over $50,000 to the Canadian Cancer Society and this year all proceeds will go to the Tour de Rock,” said organizer Harvey Twidale. “There will be a car wash and barbecue by donation and lots of fun. Everyone is welcome and we thank the local emergency agencies and our community for their support over the years.”
The Dashwood fire hall will also host the Tour de Rock on their way down Island Sept. 29 at around 12:40 p.m.
