Ducks Unlimited wants to award a local individual or group for their wetland conservation work.

John Hiebert, co-chairman of the Oceanside Chapter of Ducks Unlimited, said the group is hoping to receive local nominations, adding the request for submissions is the local organization’s way of “engaging the public in our process of finding a local worthy nomination that we will subsequently nominate for provincial recognition.”

The 2017 Community Wetland Conservation Award will be presented at the Parksville Community and Conference Centre on Friday, Nov. 3 at 5:30 p.m.. The deadline for nominations will be Wednesday, Oct. 25.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding leadership, dedication, commitment and achievement by individuals or organizations in the Parksville Qualicum Beach area.

The contributions may be made through increasing public awareness, educating others about the important role of wetlands, leading or actively participating in conservation projects or similar.

For more information or for a nomination form, contact Hiebert at jhiebert@feathercatch.com or visit Facebook Ducks Unlimited Canada - Oceanside Chapter.
