Members of the Errington Volunteer Fire Department (EVFD) need help to raise money for a drone project. They are conducting a fundraiser online and have many raffle items up for grabs.

In recent years, drone technology has come to the forefront to provide advantages in the area of life safety. Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) have become frontrunners for their abilities to locate victims, provide thermal imagery at any type of fire and provide an aerial view of emergency scenes.

The department believes this type of technology would benefit the entire Parksville Qualicum Beach area.

The department already has certified advanced RPAS pilots, as both Lt. Michael Love and firefighter Tyrone Heigh have been perfecting their piloting skills and look forward to implementing these modern ‘eye-in-the-sky’ tools in future call outs.

Volunteer firefighters risk their lives for the sake of strangers, but volunteer numbers have been decreasing over the last few decades and departments know how important it is to recruit and retain volunteers.

That is why the EVFD works diligently to provide its members with up-to-date equipment and opportunities to make an impact in their community.

To participate in the online fundraiser, which runs until Dec. 16, 2021, visit www.EVFD.ca.
