Family, friends set up unique 13th birthday for girl in Parksville

Celebration included ride in classic Corvette

Emelia Birchard had a memorable 13th birthday.

While gatherings are discouraged due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, her family and close friends still found a way to turn Birchard’s day into a unique celebration on April 21 in Parksville.

“Thinking outside of the box, her close friend Cassie Coats made quiet plans to have a parade drive by our house with friends from her class, synchronized swim team and our local Vancouver Island Cruisers to help celebrate,” said Birchard’s father, Matt.

The cars cruised past their home on the evening of her birthday, much to Emelia’s delight. Then she went on a ride in one of the classic cars and held a thank-you parade for the frontline staff at Oceanside Health Centre.

“Just warms my heart from the kindness of others,” Matt said.
