The new Forward Recovery Centre in Parksville will benefit from a recent donation by the 100+ Women Who Care in Oceanside.

The $29,000 will allow Forward House to bring in special speakers and possibly extend the recovery centre’s hours, according to Sharon Welch, executive director. Currently the centre, which opened its doors in June, is only open a few hours a day, three days a week because of financial constraints.

“We’re super excited to receive the donation from the 100 Women Who Care,” Welch said. “I’ve been a member of that organization since their second meeting.” She added 100+ Women Who Care also made a donation several years ago, which allowed Forward House to replace the roof of its main centre on Hirst Avenue.

Forward House was presented with a cheque Aug. 12 at Forward Recovery Centre (129 Alberni Hwy).

Welch said the organization is thankful for the support they have received from 100+ Women Who Care, who are looking for more members.

“The more members that they have, the more the local charities benefit,” Welch said.
