The Coombs Farmers’ Institute is holding its 5th Annual Apple Pressing Day at the Coombs Fairgrounds.
The early-bird pressing will take place on Sept. 19 with the regular pressing to be held on Oct. 2-3 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Anyone with an abundance of apples or pears in their backyard is encouraged to drop them off to be pressed into fresh juice, raw or pasteurized using a Pressing Matter Mobile Juicer.
There is a 150-pound minimum of apples per person. They must be dropped no later than noon. Bruised, imperfect fruit and mixed varieties are OK, according to the CFI.
The cost for pressing is $9.50 per five-litre ‘bag in a box’ of pasteurized juice. There is reduced rates for more than 50 boxes. It’s $1.25 per litre of raw juice.
