If you want to encourage good behaviour, there’s nothing like a treat and a helping hand.
Both of those elements will be supplied by Qualicum Foods in Qualicum Beach and Quality Foods in Parksville during Bike to Work Week, says organizer Michael Addiscott.
“For anyone who rides their bike to do their grocery shopping, QF will deliver for free,” he said.
The other thing they are going to do is give a discount at their ice cream stand for those coming by bike.”
These two moves, Addiscott said, will provide a strong incentive for residents to saddle up.
“It encourages families to come out in the evening, do their grocery shopping and then have an ice cream,” he said.
“That’s one of the great things about cycling. You get to enjoy some of the little rewards that maybe aren’t as good for you if you are more sedentary.
“You’ve earned it, so enjoy it.”
