Golf tournament to put food on Nanoose shelves

Thanks for Giving is being held at Fairwinds Golf Club on September 28, organized by Nanoose Community Services.

A golf tournament in Nanoose Bay next Saturday aims to make up nearly half of the annual budget for the Nanoose Bay Community Cupboard.

The charity golf tournament called Thanks for Giving is being held at Fairwinds Golf Club on September 28, organized by Nanoose Community Services, which operates the Nanoose Bay Community Cupboard. The charity provides food and toiletry items to those in need in the community.

Director Virginia Brucker said the food bank, like many across the province, struggles to provide groceries throughout the year.

Coastal Community Credit Union and Fairwinds are the tournament’s major sponsors. Parksville Chrysler has donated hole-in-one insurance for a new vehicle and Brian Dugaro from Investors Group has offered a $5,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one as well.

A live auction will feature an autographed Trevor Linden jersey and the silent auction features a variety of donations from local businesses and artists.

The format is a four-person scramble, and the $110 entry fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, and dinner.

Pre-registration closes September 23. To register online visit www.nanoosecommunityservices.com. For more information, call the Bruckers at Nanoose Community Services, 250-468-9888 or e-mail info@nanoosecommunityservices.com Registration forms are also available at the Fairwinds Pro Shop and Activity Centre.
