Bowser may be a small community but it’s residents have big hearts.

Ever since the Lekx family suffered a tragic loss, the community has pulled together to help them through their difficult time. A Cut-A-Thon fundraiser at Crops n’ Bobbers hair salon in Bowser’s Magnolia Court April 27 was an overwhelming success.

Proceeds from the event will support Gonda Lekx and her two children.  The Bowser resident and local hair stylist lost her husband Ronald this month.

Ronald became critically ill after heart surgery and his death has shaken the community.

Crops ’n Bobbers owner Linda Hall said she felt compelled to help Gonda and is donating all of the proceeds from the more than 20 haircuts that took place on Sunday.

“I have never seen such community spirit.  Everybody here is on board.  It is so lovely,” said Hall.

Dolina Winger of Surfside Hair in Bowser who joined Hall in the Cut-A-Thon was also impressed with the love and support fhe community has shown.

Other Magnolia Court businesses are also helping out including The Bean Counter which is donating all the proceeds from coffees sold April 27 to the Lekx family. Powerhouse Fitness Club offered bootcamp classes on April 19 by donation with proceeds to the cause.

Home made pepper jelly by Mother Mary’s Pantry was for sale at Crops n’ Bobbers Sunday with proceeds from sales going towards the cause. The Union Bay Credit Union also has an account set up in the Lekx family name for donations. A Lekx family benefit dance will also take place May 31 at the Lighthouse Community Hall.
