Snowdrops are appearing at Milner Gardens - a harbinger of spring.

Milner Gardens and Woodland is opening their gates for Harbinger Days this weekend, allowing people to come experience the earliest of the spring bulbs.

Executive director of the gardens, Geoff Ball, said there are already some flowers in bloom, despite the recent snow, including Snowdrops.

“It’s a beautiful little white flower that comes out in drifts after they have established themselves,” he said.

The tea room will be open serving, tea, scones and soup and the head gardener will also have the wood stove fired up to process some of the maple sap she’s collected, Ball said.

“People can come by and have a little sample of the sap as it processes down to syrup.”

The gates will be open at Milner Gardens this Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6 from 11 to 2:30 p.m. Entrance is by donation.

The gardens are open on Sundays throughout March by donation. For more information visit www.milnergardens.org.
