Tickets for the Empty Bowl food bank fundraiser are going fast, but not fast enough according to organizers.

This is the sixth year for the event in which people get a delicious but simple meal and get to keep the unique handmade bowls.

The bowls were made by members of the Arrowsmith Potters Guild and there are also many donated items from local artists in the evening’s silent art auction.

The event is organized by the potter’s guild and the Oceanside Coalition for Strong Communities as part of the month long Mayworks festival in support of work and workers through the arts.

This year the gourmet soup will be made by Tigh-Na-Mara Resort, Lefty’s Restaurant, The Beach Club, Bayside Bistro and Lounge and Alain Bernard, but the delicious meals are kept simple in recognition of the soup kitchen meals some people have to survive on.

The Kumbana Marimba Band will entertain and all proceeds go to the Salvation Army Food Bank.

The popular event is Saturday, May 14 at the Parksville Community and Conference Centre and tickets are available at Mulberry Book stores, Cranky Dog, OCAC and the potter’s guild at the Parksville train station.
