A historic maritime anchor, retrieved from the Salish Sea, will be an added feature at the new marine spit, north of the roundabout at the bottom of Memorial Avenue in Qualicum Beach.
The anchor has been stored outside on the grounds of the Qualicum Beach Museum but is tucked away behind the building. Town staff discussed possible locations with the museum that included the centre of the new Memorial Avenue roundabout. But due to safety reasons it was not considered.
Other locations suggested included the Seaside Nature Park/Faye Smith Rosenblatt Memorial Park and the St. Andrews Waterfront Park.

The marine spit was deemed to be the best location to display the historic anchor, as it is far from any potential vehicle hazards and is a prominent spot easily accessible as well as being in direct proximity to the Salish Sea.
Town council approved the marine spit location for the anchor. It will be placed at a suitable location that juts out from the beach, north of the roundabout.
The iron anchor was discvered several years ago and retrieved from the sea off the coast of Qualicum Beach.
